Camping 2009

This year Ryan got 3 weeks off of work and we spent 2 of those weeks camping with family at Herald Park on the Shushwap Lake. We were a bit skeptical about how it would go, this has been our longest vacation as long as we are a couple. And with a 13.5 month old to boot. Camia did wonderfully except for the arrival of 3 of her molars while we were up there. That combined with the adjustment of not sleeping in her own bed, of being in the great outdoors and everything new made for a very interesting first week. There was one night (Of the 12 that we were there) that was not so pleasant for her or me. Looking back, it wasn't as bad as it felt living in the moment, and as a result I got to play with my camera and got some lovely shots of the sunrise.

Playing with my camera:
It took a bit for Camia to enjoy the water, it was only the last day that she loved being in the water. Perhaps the contributing factors to that were that Ryan and I were both in the water and played with her at the same time. I don't know. But she had fun.
Due to the amount of water sports that were going on, Ryan thought it fitting that he go through some core exercises with the guys so that their aging muscles wouldn't be so painful.
We also had our niece Albany's 9th birthday there.
We had some great family time, sharing glasses of wine with our friendly neighbours who's kids were constantly over to keep Camia happy. Good thing we knew these people beforehand and its a good thing their family, cause then mooching is allowed and acceptable, right Tien? ;) Ryan and I are such good campers that we forgot or neglected to bring a fair amount of stuff. And since Tien is such an organized person, she helped us get settled by sweeping our campsite (I highly reccomend it with a crawling baby) and organizing our coolers. The trade-off was that we got a couple great kids to keep Camia happy every morning...even if it meant peaking in our tent to tell Camia to come play. Nevermind the fact that she was in a playpen and was unable to open the tent.

Bath times were a regular occurance since Camia spent most of the time on the beach being a beach bum and getting so full of dirt. Its a good thing I remembered her bath soap!
She also discovered the art of the oreo cookie. And new that the way to eat them is to separate them and eat the cream first. This is the first thing she did with the first oreo cookie in her life. How she knew this, I dont know, since oreo cookies are only used as a crumb base in our house.
And in the midst of all this, we even had time for pedicures!

My little beach bum.
Family dinner: Corn on the cob, steak and chicken. Camia's first corn on the cob.
One of my favourite shots: Camia and her Uncle Don

Next vacation: Smithers, taking off September 3rd!
