A Day in The Sun
This afternoon blossomed into a summery day as the day progressed and after Camia's nap, I thought it fitting that we spend some time enjoying it. And there was a wee little hope of also using the fresh air to help her feel better. So far so good :)
A positive outlook!
This morning Camia woke up at a decent time, 9:30. Slept through the entire night. Or at least I think she slept through the entire night. Either she did, or I was sleeping so deeply I did not hear her cry for help.
Yesterday I was appointed to pick my mom up from her job and bring her to her doctor's appoinment (I happened to be in the area) so her leg that was injured in January could have a look at by her doctor (who happens to still be my family doctor as well as Ryans and Camia's). I was sitting in the waiting room with my mom when Dr. Siemens came out and we exchanged formalities after which he asked how Camia was doing. I responded with the 'she's been better' line, and he volunteered to have a boo at her after he was done with my mom to check if she had an ear infection that wasn't causing her any pain (and thus would explain the high fever). After giving her a complete physical, he determined what I had already expected (see? Waiting at the walk in would have been fruitless). She had a viral infection. Pause. Possibly. Huh? (maybe the walk-in wouldnt have been such a bad idea) Well, he said, it could also be a urinal tract infection too. If the fever didnt break in the next couple days, I was to get a urine sample from Camia and have it tested.
This morning when I got her out of bed, I felt that she wasn't near as hot as she had been in the past couple days. So I decided to see if she would eat some pablum. She had 4 Tbsp...more than she's eaten all week. And then she downed almost all of her bottle. I wonder if this means I dont have to get that sample after all. Maybe since I've cancelled my beach date with my sister so Camia could nap well, she will be better for her first of three birthday parties on Sunday. (And then the walk in would prove to have been fruitless)
Crossing my fingers....

Well rested
Apparently whenever we are convinced that a rough night will be repeated by another rough, sleepless night, we are always proven wrong by our little sweet pea (has never failed yet!!). Last night was quite an uneventful night as compared to the night before. All three of us actually got a decent amount of sleep despite the feelings of our little queen bee. She did wake up once, at 4:00 am, but did not require the attention of her subjects. (I say this with the most affection possible) She talked to herself for a wee bit and eventually fell into a deep slumber again until we woke her at 7:30 to bring Ryan to work. She is now venturing into her land of fairies and princesses as I write this blurb...if that is what little girls dream of before the event of their first birthday.

So Sleepy!
Last night was probably the most interesting night I have had sleep-wise since our little girl joined our family. She slept in 1/2 hour intervals and woke up in fits of tears and hotter than eggs frying on pavement. Putting her to bed at 8 seemed to be fruitless since she did not sleep longer than the half hour. At first she would only cry for about 10 minutes and then go back to sleep. This lasted until about 11. Then it became the fits of tears that causes concern, especially since she is not one to usually cry like that in bed. I took her down stairs and layed with her on the couch. The poor little girl was so so tired, but unable to let herself go and fall into a deep slumber. We layed there until about midnight, and that is when the party started. Ryan administered tylenol and I layed her in her bed. Around 1:30 I was done getting out of bed every 30 minutes to console and lay her back down. So I set up camp on her bedroom floor and she fell asleep on my chest and layed there or beside me sleeping soundly, but still hot (with a temperature of 36.8) until around 4, when I had to shift cause not only was my mind sleeping, my limbs were starting to sleep as well. So, I lifted her up, hoped for the best and put her back to bed. Its now 9:00 and my bean is still sleeping. I dont know how soundly it was that she has been sleeping for the past 5 hours, but I did not hear her.
I do not know if this is cause for concern, or if it is natural for a paranoid new mom to worry. Since this is different than the flu she usually gets, I must admit that I was a little scared. Almost to the point of sitting in an emergency room for a few hours just so the doctor can tell me that I am just being a overly-worried mom. I actually think that might have done me some good. I might not have felt so anxious and might not have worked on laundry and dishes at 12:00 in the morning. I think that the menue for today will consist of not a whole lot. Maybe I can sneak in a nap for a little while this afternoon. We'll see. :)

Magnetic 'dry-erase' board re-invention
A few months ago I had bought 2 metal, silver colour, 'dry erase' boards from Ikea thinking they would be perfect for drawing dimensions. Today I found out that they aren't actually dry erase boards, contrary to what the label says. So, since I couldnt get the marker off, I covered one of them with fabric...I think I am going to go do the other one now.
Yay! My working space is becoming a bit more organized as time goes on!

What Ive been up to
This is what started it all...

And a close up...
And, while I was at it, I decided to make matching bumper pads since a little girl came up with a new game: Stick her legs through the bars on her crib and get stuck. Then see how long it takes mommy to comes rescue her. Take that, little girl! :D

A lonely little butterfly became the basis of the freshly born idea for a butterfly/dragonfly theme for a little girl who will never know the difference of having a themed bedroom and not having a themed bedroom. I scoured for fabrics, and was successful only in the States at a big little crafting store called Joanns. The fabric is priced really well there. After much time not spent on making the quilt, I finally decided a few days ago that I should attempt to actually have the quilt in her crib before she's big enough for a big girl bed. Time does not, infact, go backwards or stand still, so trivial things such as this must be completed before the idea gows old as does the little girl its intended for. And voila! A new quilt to match the butterfly. (most of these fabrics have butterflies somewhere in them...)
Pig tails for the first time!
I decided to see if pigtails would work....
Almost :) But good enough to be effective and cute at the same time :)

Passport photo!
Yesterday I went with a good friend to get Camia's photo taken for her passport. It was quite the process once it was all said and done. It took about 7 tries to get the correct pose/posture for legal requirements. But, in the end, my darling daughter once again proves herself to be quite photogenic (not that I am biased, or anything like that :D) When we got them done, the guy said 15 min...so we walked around the mall, came back, and he said another 15 min, so we walked around again, came back, and what did he say? oh, I'm sorry, another 15 minutes. He said if they weren't ready by the time that was over, I would get them for free. Of course, they were done by the time we came back :) But, I got a discount! :D

A Little Apron
Since May is the busiest month at any greenhouse any given year, I was asked to help out again in the retail part of a greenhouse I worked at while I was pregnant with my precious bean. Since I like to carry my phone with me at all times just in case as well as other little treasures such as a sharpie and stickers for making price tags, I decided that I would make a little apron to wear so I didnt have to shove them all in my back pockets. Using an image I had in my headand a piece of scribble paper, I came up with a pattern and design all on my own. Quite proud of myself, I am! I was inspired to come up with my own design when I started to make bumper pads bigger than the traditional size for Camia's crib...but that will come when I am ready to post :) For now, here are some pictures of my little apron. The best part? It only took an hour and a half to complete! :)

Its got 2 pockets...

A Sundress
I decided to take on the feat of sewing Camia a sundress once I discovered recently how much I actually like to sew. In February I went with a few of my aunts to Fabricland and picked out a pattern that I really liked. All of my aunts know how to sew quite well (one is a well-recognised quilter, and has had her quilts appear on the front of magazines), and I learned that the pattern name Burda is one of the most difficult patterns to follow, but I wanted to try it anyways. I started it about a month ago, and finally completed it today. The pattern itself was not that difficult to follow. That being said, on Monday morning I ripped the whole thing apart and started from scratch because it wasn't turning out the way I had envisioned. The second time putting it together was definately a better sucess than the first.

Upon completing the hemming today, I put the dress on my wee model and discovered that, even though I had taken in the seams an extra quarter inch, the dress was way too big...It might fit her next summer.
Swimming
As of the last month or so, Camia and I have been visiting the local swimming pools for some different kind of fun. Camia is such a water baby and could spend all day in the pool, I am sure, since after an hour and a half this past week did not seem to be enough for her. I met my friend Melissa and her little girl Sidney and hung out at the pool for a couple hours.

She loved the slides after the first couple times down them. Getting the feel of them did not take all that long for her. I wonder what would have happened had I let her fall all the way in the water instead of catching her right before her head went under...

And this is what happened straight away after putting her to bed that night. My little bean. :) Plain tuckered right out!
