Caleb is 4 months. While we love him to bits, we (and by 'we' I mean 'I'...) can't wait until he's older. Sometimes I feel guilty for not taking the time to try to enjoy him while he is still a baby, but I am really looking forward to him being happy and content. And older. Sure, he is getting better, he doesn't scream as long or as often, but he is still a very discontented baby the majority of the time, which can be very exhausting and frustrating. While feeling like I am stuck in a rut sometimes, there are also so many exciting things that have been happening. One of my favourite things about having a baby is watching him grow and develop. I love when he gets to a new stage or watching him try to get to the next stage.
He got his 4 month shots on Monday which went better than the first time. I don't blame him for being sad. I don't like getting shots either. On advice from another mom, I gave him some Tylenol before we went, so perhaps that is what helped him. He also got weighed and measured. At 4 months, 1 day he weighed 15.5 lbs and measured 25 inches long. He is off the charts for height and in the 90th percentile for his weight.
A few things he's got down pat are laughing and talking a bit. He rolls over from his tummy to his back regularly and grabs at toys. He discovered is feet a little while ago and is fascinated with them. He cries - or screams - less frequently and sleeps in his big boy crib. It was a bit of a challenge the first couple nights since the first night he was up every hour to hour and a half. For the last stretch of the night I put one of my sweaters in bed with him and he slept a grand total of 3 whole hours! I am not sure why I didn't think of that earlier. So now every night he gets to sleep with my sweaters.
While he was still itty bitty, he liked sitting in his bouncy chair during meal times. Now he never sits in it anymore since he gets all mad if we put him in it. He loves to be with us and be eye-level. For a while he sat on my lap. Then I thought there was no reason why he couldn't sit in the high chair. With a few blankets stuffed around him since he can't sit yet he is happy as a pig in mud. I also put him in it when I work in the kitchen. It's grand.
We got our exersaucer back from friends who were borrowing it and he loves it. I also use this too when I am working in the kitchen. It gives me a wonderful 15 minutes or so to prep dinner or do dishes or something wonderful like that.
Like Camia was, he is a crazy droolbug. This is what his shirts often look like a few hours into the day. I got him some bibs that have a plastic liner that are fabulous and keep his shirts and sleepers dry. er. :) Since everyone raves about their efficacy, we got him the Amber teething necklace a while back in an effort to stop his crying. I don't know if it was coincidence or if it's actually working, but a few days after I put it on him things started improving. Does Amber help with colic??. It doesn't help with drool. :)
One of my very favourite things about having a little one again is watching him and Camia interact. There is something special about sibling interaction that is priceless and SO worth the rough start we had.
