It Was A Surprise!

And we did a fabulous job of keeping it a surprise, my Mom had no clue!
She turned 50 last week, so in honour of it, my sister and I arranged a surprise birthday party. My Dad was in on it, he took Mom out for dinner and when she came back, all her friends were there waiting for her. It was grand, and the feeling of accomplishment is that much greater because we successfully surprised her. For the occasion my sister and I did a strawberry theme as strawberries are her life right now. She is busy busy in the greenhouse getting the strawberries ready for another season, and even though the weather has been lousy, things still are progressing under her green thumb. We made vanilla cakepops and deorated them to look like strawberries,we made strawberry punch with a little something something in it (the rum made it taste good), I sewed a banner from strawberry fabric, and we used red table cloths to go with the theme.
We made strawberry invitations and handed them out a bit late which resulted in making a few phone calls to make sure people knew about it.
We decorated a bit, but kept it simple.
We had a fire in my parents back yard and were happy with the turnout.

And in all this, the prep work involved Friday afternoon, the quick set up after Dad took her out in the evening and making sure the plates were bottomless, this little munchkin entertained herself very well by jumping on the tramp, playing with the 12 baby kitties and feeding the bunny. It also helped that Mom loved to show her off to all her friends :). She finally went to bed at 10 and fell promptly asleep, even though she cried because she wanted to go play with the baby kitties.
It was a good night.
